Grupo La Plana has invested in a BOBST FFG 924 NT RS Flexo folder gluer to enhance the quality, consistency, and versatility of its case-making operations. The investment supports the Spanish packaging group’s strategy for profitable, sustainable growth while helping it respond to increasing customer expectations around quality and delivery reliability.
Founded in Betxí, Castellón, in 1973, Grupo La Plana is a family-owned manufacturer of corrugated and solid board packaging and point-of-sale (POS) display solutions. The company serves customers in agriculture, food and beverages, ceramics, e-commerce, and fast-moving consumer goods.
Today, the group operates six production centres, 16 assembly centres, sales offices in Almería and Valencia, and maintains a commercial presence in Portugal and southern France. This gives the group a footprint of more than 127,000 sqm. With over 700 employees across the organization, the group recorded a turnover of €175 million in 2025.
Products produced by the group include trays, American-style boxes, cartons, offset-printed cartons, agricultural packaging, protective packaging, box pallets, shelf-ready packaging, e-commerce solutions, and takeaway food packaging. The company serves customers across Spain, Portugal, south of France, and North Africa.
The development has been supported by continued investment in production capacity, automation, and innovation. Particular milestones include the creation of the Grupo La Plana structure in 1998, the opening of the InnLab Innovation Centre in 2021, and the acquisition of the Crevillente, Igualada and Madrid (PLV) production plants in between 2017 and 2022.
In 2026, Grupo La Plana launched its Strategic Plan for 2026-2028, which sets out a clear ambition to grow in a profitable and orderly manner, strengthen the company’s competitive position, and diversify and consolidate around three core areas: corrugated board, folding carton, and point-of-sale displays. At the same time, customer requirements continue to develop. This includes increased demand for consistent quality and reliable delivery, placing greater emphasis on production stability and repeatable results.
Against this background, Grupo La Plana decided to invest in a BOBST FFG 924 NT RS to produce RSC boxes. The FFG 924 NT RS is a high-speed industrial flexo-folder-gluer that prints, cuts, folds, and glues corrugated cardboard sheets into finished boxes in a single pass
The machine installed at Grupo La Plana has expanded the group’s capabilities by giving it greater versatility in box production while raising the quality of finished products.
The decisive factor was the machine’s process stability throughout production. This gives the company greater confidence when producing boxes that must meet exacting customer quality expectations.
“We purchased the new BOBST machine because of the consistency it offers in finish quality, particularly for jobs involving full die-cutting,” says Juan Ignacio Piquer, President and CEO of La Plana Group. “It has given us greater versatility in the case-making process thanks to full die-cutting, as well as higher quality and the assurance that we can offer our customers a fully die-cut box in perfect condition.”
For Grupo La Plana, the value of the investment extends beyond the machine’s ability to perform a particular application. The FFG 924 NT RS combines high-speed production with precise die-cutting and efficient waste removal, helping to maintain consistent quality while meeting the demands of fully die-cut box production.
“BOBST machines offer excellent process stability even at high speeds, which in the specific case of the FFG 924 NT RS flexo folder gluer, ensures a fully die-cut box finish and thorough cleaning of the die-cut edges prior to the folding process,” says Mr. Piquer. “This has resulted in greater process flexibility, improved quality and increased assurance when delivering fully die-cut boxes to customers.”
The installation and commissioning process has played an important role in the success of the project. Grupo La Plana relied on BOBST’s training and service teams as part of the installation to ensure quick and efficient commissioning of the new case-making line.
He goes on: “The new BOBST machine has met our expectations, particularly with regard to the commissioning process and the work carried out by the team responsible for installation and operator training.
“Our operators have adapted well to the new machine thanks to the excellent training and commissioning work carried out by the BOBST technicians.”
This latest investment builds on a relationship between Grupo La Plana and BOBST that spans more than 30 years. This is based on a shared focus on finding equipment that meets and exceeds customer production requirements.
