Eurocast installs BOBST NOVA D 800 to strengthen sustainable coating and laminating production

Mex, Switzerland, 18th June 2021
A specialist in plastic processing, Eurocast has commissioned a BOBST NOVA D 800 LAMINATOR for the production of flexible packaging films. The new multi-technology machine has increased production capacity by 60%, as the Polish company continues to invest to better serve its customers across Europe with innovative products that have minimal environmental impact.
Eurocast Sp. z o.o. was established in 1997. Today, it employs over 225 staff at its factory in Strzebielino, near Gdansk in northern Poland. The production is focused on mono- and multilayer flexible films, PET rigid films, laminates and metallized films for the dry, liquid and fresh food, non-food, technical and industrial, pharma and healthcare sectors.
Significant investments over the past six years include a BOBST K5000 2450 metallizer with AlOx technology in 2015, followed by the world’s first BOBST CL 750D laminator in 2017, bought to develop new types of flexible packaging films with excellent barrier properties. A fourth APET extruder was installed in 2018 increasing production of rigid films by 7,000 tons, and in 2020, a new automatic packaging system was put in place.
The new BOBST NOVA D 800 is the third laminator in the company’s machine park and the first of its kind in operation in Europe. It is a compact and flexible machine that has been designed to handle different film and paper substrates and consumables types, both conventional and those designed for recycling. Coating types include solvent-based, water-based and solventless, delivered via a trolley system. Fast job changes are done without special tools and the machine is very easy to operate.
“We are proud to be the first company in Europe to install this multi-technology laminator,” said CEO Krzysztof Wiśniewski. “We always focus on innovation – it is an important aspect of our strategy. We chose this highly automated and versatile laminator, because it delivers perfect coating every time, while also allowing a reduction of the coating weight, which is crucial in terms of sustainability.”
Eurocast is dedicated to making investments that protect the environment and to optimizing all aspects of production to reduce its environmental impact. The NOVA D 800 will further strengthen the expansion of the company’s innovative AIOx CRYSTALLINE product series, which removes aluminium completely from laminated films for food packaging applications without compromising on the barrier qualities.
Mr Wiśniewski explained, “We will continue to design and deliver food-safe packaging with minimal impact, based on modern technology that eliminates the possible contamination of the environment – of course, we can allow ourselves to do that, being extremely technologically advanced and having one of the best R&D departments in this part of Europe. The new BOBST laminator supports this mission and is ideal for our future growth.”
The superb product quality and sustainable operation of the machine is complemented by high productivity as evidenced by the increase experienced by Eurocast. “The NOVA D 800 has boosted our production capacity by 60%, which means that we can now offer our customers a stable supply of the highest quality products,” concluded Mr Wiśniewski.
